First Annual Chinese Community ZOE Cup Photography Contest
for Better Homes and Living, Toronto, 2010
Our story:
Ever since the very first family of Chinese immigrants stepped onto this great land of Toronto
about 131 years ago in 1878, the steady improvements of our living conditions mirror that of
many other immigrant communities. It all started with simple make-shift shacks and wooden
cottages, later small and crowded apartments in Chinatown, and enter today’s modern
communities composed of condos, houses, and even mansions, signaling Chinese
communities flourish here in our beloved Toronto. In many ways, this steady ascent of our
lives during the last century reflects how our community has prospered along with making
ever greater contribution to the Canadian society at large.
It is said that when you have a home, you have a place to settle down and prosper. In our time,
our homes no longer just provide shelter against the harsh winters here, but they reflect our
pursuit of happiness in building better communities. In the eyes of interior designers, the
unique individual expressions of beauty all begin with the love of our homes.
In recognizing this pursuit and in commemorating the official acceptance of the Chinese
immigrants into Canada 30 years ago, we** are sponsoring the very First Annual Chinese
Community ZOE Cup Photography Contest for Better Homes and Living. We hope this
contest will bring the Toronto Chinese communities closer as it provides a great opportunity to
showcase and to celebrate our culture extending beyond the physical objects captured on
camera. Our goal is to remember our past journeys into this great nation and to project the
bright future for us to actively participate in building better communities here in Toronto.
You are invited to join us:
Why wait? It is the perfect time to pick up your trusty camera to forever capture that perfect
moment to show the world your homes and styles! There is no contest entrance fee, and even
better, if we love your work, you will get an award for it, too!
